Italian 1-2 for Mottola and Di Persio in Misano Superpole
Two home heroes secured the top two places on the grid on a scorching day in Italy
It was an Italian affair as Round 2 of the FIM Yamaha R3 BLU CRU World Cup got underway at a swelteringly hot Misano with home heroes Angelo Mottola and Alessandro di Persio taking first and second on the grid in front of a home crowd.
Mottola’s time of 1’54.052, which came at the very end of the session, saw him take pole position from Di Persio by 0.101 seconds with Indonesia’s Arai Agaska just 0.021 seconds back to complete the front row.
Xarly Méndez de Oleo (Dominican Republic) will line up for Saturday’s opening race in fourth with Kakeru Okunuki (Japan) and Mario Salles (Brazil) joining him on the second row.
Japan’s Jean Kento Turner heads up row three in seventh ahead of Aymon Bocanegra (Brazil) and the third Italian on the grid, Marco Truoiolo. Teppei Kugawa (Japan) rounds out the top ten.
Series leader Chris Clark (USA) will start the first race from 13th on the grid.
Lights go out for the first race of the weekend at 10:15 local time. Both races will be streamed LIVE on the Yamaha Racing YouTube here.
Angelo Mottola said: “Pole position is a perfect way to start the weekend here in Italy, I enjoy riding the Misano track a lot so to be quickest in qualifying is an important start, now we need to see how we can do in the race tomorrow!”
