Di Persio takes first victory of 2025 in Misano
Victory in the opening race of Round 2 of the FIM Yamaha R3 BLU CRU World Cup went the way of home hero Alessandro di Persio on Saturday in the scorching heat at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli.
It was a hectic affair once again in the BLU CRU category, with multiple leaders throughout and a group of 12 riders in the fight for victory at various stages of the ten-lap encounter. Starting second on the grid, Di Persio was in the mix throughout but it was Indonesia’s Arai Agaska who took an early lead on the opening lap.
A frantic battle ensued, with multiple riders in contention until the very end. However, a multiple bike crash on the final lap brought the race to a premature end, breaking up the group and allowing Di Persio to break clear for his first victory of the season. Following a stewards’ review, the podium was confirmed with Di Persio on the top step with Agaska second and Bocanegra taking third place.
Emmanuele Pastore (Italy) took fourth, ahead of Kugawa and Mario Salles (Brazil), with seventh for Chris Clark (USA) enough to hold on to the series lead by a single point after three races. Arai Agaska moves up to second in the standings with Di Persio’s victory moving him up to third.
Dawid Nowak (Poland) took eighth with the Netherland’s Indi Schunselaar and Matteo Truoiolo of Italy completing the top ten.
The race-ending incident involved polesitter Angelo Mottola (Italy), Kakeru Okunuki (Japan), Jean Kento Turner (Japan), all of whom were unhurt, while Xarly Mandez de Oleo (Dominican Republic) was taken to hospital for checks – the rider was conscious and reported to have a suspected concussion.
Having set the fastest lap of the race, Emmanuele Pastore will start Race 2 on pole position ahead of Mario Salles and Daniel Krabacher (Austria). Lights go out at the earlier time of 10:05, with the race streamed LIVE HERE.
On his Race 1 win, Di Persio said: “What a race, these are incredible emotions! I am very proud of the team for their work in these days. I have to say thanks to all of my sponsors and family. Tomorrow we have to try again, I am looking forward to it!”
