Having been second in Race 1, Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) stormed to victory in both the Tissot Superpole Race and also Race 2 at the Circuito San Juan Villicum. Blasting into the lead early on in both races, only a mistake in Race 2 saw Rea drop out of the leading position. Rea’s victory combined with teammate Haslam’s points from Argentina confirmed the KRT squad as the winning team in 2019.

Starting from second for the Tissot Superpole Race, Rea made a bright start and held his second place at Turn 1, before pouncing on Bautista at Turn 6 and 7, slicing his way into the lead and not surrendering from then on in. In Race 2, he romped clear from his pole position and despite making a mistake at Turn 8, he fought back to take a 14^th win of the season.

Speaking at the end of the weekend, Rea said: “For the Tissot Superpole Race, I really felt that we could go full gas for the full ten laps! In Race 2, I felt like I ran into some tyre issues with about five laps to go, especially on the left side in the first section. I made a huge mistake where I found a false neutral at the end of the back straight!

“It is kind of scary when you sail in at the end of the back straight so fast, especially one that long! You can’t use more engine braking because you’re already on the limit. It was frustrating, because I’d done a good job to stretch out the gap in the beginning of the race, so it was a case of starting from zero again and restarting my rhythm.”

Rea’s lead in the Championship standings extends, but the Northern Irishman has already wrapped up title number five. However, the records kept tumbling and Rea became the first rider in WorldSBK history to finish 45 consecutive races inside the points, with his worst result being a fifth after a crash in the Tissot Superpole Race at Misano.

Continuing to discuss his time in Argentina, the five-time WorldSBK Champion didn’t hide away from his joy over the weekend: “I am really happy with Sunday, especially after a difficult day for everybody on Saturday. To do two good races in front of the fans was great.”

The Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK have taken the WorldSBK Team’s Championship crown after a dominant display from their riders in 2019. With the majority of the points scored coming from Rea, Leon Haslam also put in crucial performances to make sure their squad achieved yet more success in the 2019 World Superbike season.
