Sofuoglu thrilled to banish winless run

New championship leader had waited for almost exactly one year.

Not since Sunday 13 April 2014 has Kenan Sofuoglu won a World Supersport race, but that changed on Sunday 12 April 2015 as the Turkish rider stepped atop the podium for the first time this season. He would dedicate the victory to his Kawasaki Puccetti Racing team.

“This is where I want to be,” he said. “Last year, I was so tired to be arriving in the paddock with eighth or ninth place in the championship. Now we are leading and this is what we needed. After Thailand I told myself, ‘I have to go for a win in Aragon’ and I did. It had been almost one full year since I last won a race. I am so happy today. A big thanks to my team; they deserve it – they deserve it more than me – and I am happy to bring them to first place.”

The Aragon result means that three different riders – Jules Cluzel, Ratthapark Wilairot and Kenan Sofuoglu – have won the opening trio of races for three different manufacturers in MV Agusta, Honda and Kawasaki.
