2015 FIM Supersport World Champion Kenan Sofuoglu has been awarded the ‘Best Male Athlete of the Year’ award at the 14th edition of the Turkish Sport Awards.

Each year, the ceremony recognises the most outstanding performances of both male and female athletes in various sporting disciplines. The Turkish rider, who won his fourth WorldSSP title this year, collected the gong at the awards ceremony in Istanbul on Monday.

Over 70% of voters elected for the motorcycle racer, who earned 14,679 votes in total. His closest rivals were Servet Tazegulm of the World Taekwondo Championships and tennis player Marsel Ilhan.

Fellow prize winners included swimmer Viktoria Zeynep (Female Athlete of the Year), FC Barcelona footballer Arda Turan (Best Turkish footballer overseas), Volkan Sen (Best national footballer) and football club Galatasay (Best football club of 2015).
