Rea overcomes flu to make Misano test progress!

The four-time WorldSBK Champion took advantage of the extra time on the track before next week's Acerbis Spanish Round at Jerez!

Despite taking his first two victories of the year at Imola, Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) does not miss any opportunity to try different possibilities and ideas when the weekends of competition allow it. The current world champion arrived at the test with flu at Misano, and there, he found an unfavourable weather that limited the track time. Despite everything, both he and his teammate Leon Haslam ended up satisfied with the work done during the two days of testing on the Italian track.

"Today we have done many things in the afternoon," explained Rea at the end of Thursday's session. "Yesterday I was in bed until lunchtime, because I had a bad flu, but this morning I felt a little better."

The WorldSBK riders who were present in the private test spent the first hours of the two days in the garage, led to ever-changing on-track conditions. The Ulsterman took full advantage of the dry track in the afternoon. He completed a fast lap with a qualifying tyre (1’34.5) and rode with a race setting, with a very high pace for the conditions of the track. He was also able to explore a riding position that gave him even more confidence, especially after his recent victories at Imola.

"We have worked on a different balance of the bike and the weight distribution, and also with some Pirelli tyres. We had different configurations with the front fork, but the most important thing we did was change my position on the bike. In the afternoon I had a very good feeling with this," he deepened.

"This test has been the perfect opportunity to do that kind of thing, because during the weekends we cannot really try such big changes. It has been a very positive test and I feel good about it."

For his part, Haslam ventured out even in the rain and immediately found a fast pace. In the dry, the English rider also made progress with the general configuration of his Kawasaki, which continues to adapt.

The next round of the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship will take place in Jerez between June 7 and 9.
