Restarted race brings glory for BMW rider

Marco Faccani (Althea BMW Racing Team) secured the victory in a last lap thriller at the Pirelli Riviera Di Rimini Round in a restarted European Superstock 1000 race. Crossing the line just 0.363s ahead of Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing – Junior Team), the Italian won the race by the narrowest margin of the year in a sensational race.

Locked in a five lap sprint for the lead, the Italian was able to make the move on the final lap as he fought tooth and nail to take the victory in front of his home fans. Marking his first victory at a home circuit meant a lot to the 22 year old rider, and his Italian team. Holding his determination to the end of the race, it was an intense fight to the line but after securing the correct line through the all important final corner, Faccani was able to take the victory in stunning style.

"What a race!” Beams Faccani, “I’m so happy for the team, for me, everyone! It was very tough in the first part of the race, with a really fast pace to keep. I held on and then pushed to the max again in the second heat. I knew I had to try on the last lap and I did it. What can I say, I’m very happy, we needed this. I thank everyone for their support, the team, the sponsors, we did a great job here and I hope we can continue like this.”

European Superstock 1000 Championship now heads off on their eight week long summer break, in which the riders will be focusing on training as the title fight lights up in Lausitzring. Just 23 points split the top three in the championship, so it will be all to play for in the second half of the season.
