No surgery needed for the injured Frenchman.

During Monday's afternoon session of the WSBK official test at Phillip Island, Frenchman Sylvain Barrier (BMW Motorrad Italia Superbike Team) suffered a high-speed crash at Turn 11 in the final minutes. The two-time and reigning STK1000 Champion was taken first to the circuit's medical centre and then transferred to the hospital at Dandenong, where he underwent some medical checks that revealed a compound fracture of the pelvis.

The specialists who assisted Barrier did not consider surgery to be necessary and believe that a period of inactivity and rest will suffice. Unfortunately, the BMW Motorrad Italia Superbike Team rider will not be able to participate in the opening round of the eni FIM Superbike World Championship this weekend at Phillip Island.

Two time Australian Superbike Champion Glenn Allerton will take Barrier's place in the QBE Round at Phillip Island riding the EVO-spec BMW S 1000 RR fielded by the BMW Motorrad Italia Superbike Team.
