The #88 was caught up in a Turn 6 crash involving Sam Lowes and Andrea Locatelli, and was declared unfit after the Superpole Race

BMW have provided an update on Miguel Oliveira (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) following the Tissot Superpole Race crash at the Balaton Park Circuit, confirming the #88 will miss the upcoming Czech Round. After the crash on Sunday morning in the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship, was initially declared unfit with a concussion and a left shoulder injury before he was transported to hospital for further assessment.

Following those further assessments, the Portuguese rider will miss the upcoming Czech Round at the Autodrom Most as the full extent his injuries became apparent. The left shoulder injury as to the tendons, while he also suffered fractures to the scapula and to his ribs alongside the concussion.

Speaking about his recovery process, Oliveira said: “Of course, I’m very disappointed, because with the podium in Saturday’s race in Hungary, we showed that we are on the right path towards success. Unfortunately, setbacks such as injuries can happen in racing. I will now fully focus on getting back to 100 percent fitness and returning to my team and my BMW M 1000 RR as soon as possible. My thanks go to everyone who helped me after my injury in Hungary. Thanks also to Mickey – I know my bike is in good hands in Most.”

In his place in Czechia will be Michael van der Mark as the Dutchman returns to WorldSBK race action. He raced for the factory BMW team between 2021 and 2025, winning two races – at Portimao in 2021 and Magny-Cours in 2024 – as well as taking five podiums in total. Although he’s no longer a WorldSBK rider for the German manufacturer, he remains a test rider for the World Superbike programme and is part of their FIM EWC squad, meaning he has remained familiar with the M 1000 RR.

Van der Mark said: “First of all, I wish Miguel a speedy recovery. I’m ready and I will give everything to settle back in quickly. My task will be to support BMW Motorrad Motorsport and the team as best as possible in Most, collect important data for the rest of the season, and of course score as many points as possible.”
