The Portuguese star was riding up in the provisional podium places when the crash occured, and the #88 was left worse for wear; Petrucci ruled out after contact in the same race

The second race of the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship weekend, unfortunately, saw Miguel Oliveira (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) take a tumble on Turn 6 of the opening lap. As he came through Turn 5 and was changing direction to Turn 6, Sam Lowes (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) and Andrea Locatelli (Pata Maxus Yamaha) made contact, which sent Locatelli into the right side of Oliveira’s bike, with the #88 coming off his machine with the red flags waved. Oliveria has been transported to a local hospital for further diagnosis after being assessed a concussion and a left shoulder injury at the medical centre. For the incident, the #55 was handed a double Long Lap Penalty by the FIM WorldSBK Stewards.

Elsewhere, Oliveira’s teammate, Danilo Petrucci, will also miss Race 2. Although he finished the race in 16th place, he went to the medical centre following the Superpole Race and was declared unfit with a left hip contusion after contact with Bahattin Sofuoglu (Motoxracing WorldSBK Team) on the opening lap of the restarted race.
