Setup and electronics work for Sam Lowes at "really hot" Jerez test

The British rider was one of a few competitors who headed to the south of Spain for testing, with the #14 taking part on just one of the two days

Sam Lowes (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) headed to the Circuito de Jerez – Angel Nieto for a day of testing at the iconic Spanish venue as he, along with a few other riders, prepared for the final three rounds of the 2025 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship season. The #14 was the second-fastest on the opening day of the test, which is the only day he will take part on.

Lowes completed 75 laps as track temperatures reached just under 60 degrees Celsius as he looked to improve setup and electronics in scorching temperatures, with ambient temperatures reaching 36 degrees Celsius under the Spanish sun. The 35-year-old, who celebrated his birthday a couple of days ago, set a time of 1’38.686s to claim P2; only bettered by Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) as the two-time Champion went around two tenths quicker.

Reviewing his test day at Jerez, Lowes said: “I’m really happy with the test here at Jerez. The conditions were really hot, so it was important for me to ride when it’s like this to improve a little bit. There’s been some races this year where we’ve struggled in those conditions. I worked mainly on setup and electronic stuff with nothing massive to test at this point of the year. I’m really happy with my pace all day, some good lap times on race tyres; faster than I’ve been here before, so that was great. It was a positive test and day. After the way Magny-Cours finished, it was nice to come here and just have a day’s riding and get back into it. I’m looking forward to Aragon now.”

Magny-Cours ended on a sour note for the Lincoln-born rider after a mechanical issue in Race 2 came after a crash in both Race 1 and the Tissot Superpole Race. However, he showed strong pace – as he has all season – and will be hoping this test can help steady the ship in the final three rounds of the season, beginning with next week’s Aragon Round before trips to Estoril and Jerez to close out the 2025 season.
