"I feel much more confident in what we want to improve on the bike" – Donington success blows wind in the Texan’s sails

It was a fruitful trip to the UK for the Texan #31, improving his season-best performance and getting a better idea of the direction they want to move the bike in

American Rider Garrett Gerloff (Kawasaki WorldSBK Team) showed out at Donington Park in the Prosecco DOC UK Round, finishing all three races in the top eight, including a P6 in Race 2. That makes the round by far his best of the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship season. As he said before Donington, he believes his place is farther towards the front than he had been placing up to this point in the season.

CLICKING WITH KAWASAKI: “Working with the whole team, it’s nice that we’re all on the same page”

The Texan’s performance at Donington set a new season-best result, growth that is becoming consistent for the #31, as in the last three rounds, he has recorded a season-best result. Since Most, his season-best result has improved by two positions per round; his P10 benchmark turned to a P8 at Misano, and now again it improves to a P6 after his Race 2 performance at Donington. Bolstered by the vote of confidence from his team in the form of his contract extension through 2026, the American rider looks to have found something he can continue to tinker with from here on out.

On his UK weekend, Gerloff said: “It feels super nice to finally have a weekend where things feel like they have gone a bit better for us every day. I’m super happy that we feel like we're in an upward trajectory. I feel much more confident in what I want to improve on the bike, especially the last few weekends. Things are all pointing in the same direction, and I’m hoping we can find solutions to those things as fast as possible. I want to have more single-digit numbers next to my name; that would be good. Working with the whole team, it’s nice that we’re all on the same page, we all listen to each other, and bounce ideas off each other. It’s been a really nice environment to keep improving everything. We might have some test parts eventually; we have more room to grow there.”

GERLOFF ON HIS UNFAMILIARITY WITH BALATON -“I’m excited, normally I’m not bad at new tracks, so I hope I can find a rhythm pretty quickly and keep things going”

Now that he is consistently placing within the top ten, and he is happy with the direction he and his team want to take the development of the bike, Gerloff sets his sights on the upcoming round at Balaton Park. It will be the first time that WorldSBK hosts a round at the Hungarian venue, and the round will feature the 1000th WorldSBK Race, a massive milestone for not only the championship but for the sport.

On his outlook on the upcoming round at Hungary’s Balaton Park Circuit, Gerloff said: “I’ll need to find a video or something because honestly, I don’t even know which way the track goes, I wasn’t at the test on the standard bike with everyone. I’m excited, normally I’m not bad at new tracks, so I hope I can find a rhythm pretty quickly and keep things going.”
