Di Persio Extends Advantage with Race 2 Win in Hungary

Sunday, 27 July 2025 17:04 GMT

The Italian took home his fourth win of the campaign in Race 2 to extend his streak to six consecutive podiums

Alessandro di Persio extended his championship lead with a fourth victory of the season in the FIM Yamaha R3 BLU CRU World Cup at Balaton Park. The Italian rider once again showed exemplary racecraft to take his sixth successive podium finish in Race 2.

Starting from pole, it was Aymon Bocanegra (Brazil) who led the way on the opening lap from Arai Agaska (Indonesia) and Dawid Nowak (Poland), but Di Persio was in the leading group throughout.

An early crash for Nowak saw his difficult 2025 season continue, as he slipped off at Turn 15.

Unlike on Saturday, where the leading trio were able to break away, it was another nine-bike battle at the front in Race 2, with yet another last-lap decider in the close-fought class.

Sitting third ahead of the final lap, Di Persio was once again able to outsmart his rivals to cross the line and take victory by 0.147 seconds at the flag with yesterday’s winner Agaska crossing the line second and Bocanegra taking his second podium of the season in third.

Teppei Kugawa (Japan) took fourth ahead of fellow countryman Kakeru Okunuki, with Emanuele Pastore (Italy) sixth. Mario Salles, who entered the weekend third in the championship now leaves fifth after a seventh place while Chris Clark (USA) managed to hold on to second in the standings by a single point despite an eighth-place finish.

Xarly Mendez de Oleo (Dominican Republic) took ninth with Silvano Germano (Italy) Tenth.

The series resumes at Magny-Cours as the WorldSBK paddock reconvenes after the summer break between 5-7 September.

“It is always amazing to win in the R3 World Cup because it is always a big fight with some very strong riders. I am happy to win here in Hungary, as this is my first time at the Balaton Park Circuit, and it makes me even more pleased to win at a new track. I don’t have many words! Thank you so much to ARCO MotoR University, my team and everyone involved.”
