2025 FALLS REPORT: Who crashed the most in 2025?
2025 provided a Championship battle full of tension and excitement, but who ended up atop the order in crashes this season?
With 2025 having ridden its final lap, and the teams already preparing for the 2026 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship, it’s time to look back through the 2025 campaign and analyse a key element of this sport: which riders struggled with crashes in the season? Two riders tied for the most spills this season, with another two just a single crash behind them, indicating not only elements of the rider and their bike, like who had struggles with their setup or who was trying to push the hardest, but also about the circuits, as to which tracks gave riders the most grief.
WORLD SUPERBIKE NUMBERS: Crashes on the rise compared to 2024
Tied atop the order, BMW’s Michael van der Mark and Yari Montella (Barni Spark Racing Team) had 15 crashes apiece. While these season-highs are down from 2024’s high-water mark of Sam Lowes (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) and Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) with 17 crashes, considerably more riders finished above 2024’s second-most of 10 crashes. Tarran Mackenzie (MGM BONOVO Racing Team) and Factory Ducati rider Alvaro Bautista each finished with 14, ahead of Motocorsa’s Ryan Vickers with 12 and Alex Lowes (bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team), Team Pata Go Eleven’s Andrea Iannone and Bahattin Sofuoglu (Yamaha Motoxracing WorldSBK Team) with 11 apiece. On the other end of the spectrum, BMW rider Toprak Razgatlioglu and incoming BMW rider after competing in 2025 with Barni Spark Ducati Racing team, Danilo Petrucci, tied for the fewest crashes of those who crashed with just two each.
CRASH NUMBERS DOWN IN WORLD SUPERSPORT: Mahias tops the list, Oettl and Alcoba tied for fewest
After a sterling season of racing, despite the high level of talent present in the Championship and how hard riders were pushing, the total number of crashes this season decreased from 258 in 2024 to 203 in 2025. Lucas Mahias (GMT94-YAMAHA) was the rider with the most crashes with 16, ahead of a two-way tie for second between Kaito Toba (PETRONAS MIE Honda Racing Team) and MV Agusta Reparto Corse’s Filippo Farioli. Philipp Oettl (Feel Racing WorldSSP Team) and rookie rider Jeremy Alcoba (Kawasaki WorldSSP Team) tied for fewest crashes among the riders who did crash, only crashing a pair of times each, even fewer than 2025 World Champion Stefano Manzi, who finished with three.
WORLD SUPERSPORT 300: One rider topped the list by a margin of four crashes
WorldSSP300’s trajectory from 2024 to 2025 was similar to WorldSSP. Crashes dropped by 20% compared to WorldSSP’s 22%, totalling a decrease from 161 to 129 crashes. Emiliano Ercolani (Kawasaki GP Project) crashed a total of 11 times to tp the list; from there, the list spreads out widely with Felix Mulya (ProGP NitiRacing) and Filip Novotny (Accolade Funds Smrx Racing BGR) with seven, Unai Calatayud and Jeffrey Buis with six, and Giacomo Zannini (Kawasaki GP Project) and Roberto Fernandez (Kawasaki Junior Team by MTM) with five each. Among riders who saw gravel, 16 riders tied for the fewest crashes, including 2025 Champion Benat Fernandez (Team #109 Retro Traffic Kove) and title contender Julio Garcia (Prodina Kawasaki Italka Racing).
DIALING IN: WorldWCR records a substantial decrease in crashes from 2024’s maiden season
WorldWCR featured the most significant decrease from last year to this one, a 39% drop from 2024 to 2025. South African rider Jessica Howden (Team Trasimeno) topped the list for the most crashes in 2025 with six crashes, ahead of her teammate and American rider Sonya Lloyd with five. At the bottom of the order of crashers, eight riders tied with a single crash, including 2025 third and fourth place finishers Roberta Ponziani (Klint Forward Racing Team) and Chloe Jones (GR Motorsport).
TRICKIEST CIRCUITS AND CORNERS: Misano and Magny-Cours saw the most crashes of all venues in 2025
Counting all Championships, Misano had the most crashes. Most notoriously, Turn 14 gave riders the most headaches, with 10 crashes there alone. The most challenging corner of 2025 was Cremona’s Turn 2, which saw a season-high 17 crashes. Fifth-highest among circuits in volume of crashes, Assen’s Turn 5 saw the second-most spills of any corner on the calendar.
