Kawasaki rider makes history in a stunning race win in WorldSSP300

Not only were FIM Supersport 300 World Championship fans treated to a stunning 11 lap thriller around the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve, but they saw the history books being written as Ana Carrasco (ETG Racing) secured the victory in the seventh round of the season.

Becoming the first female to take a race victory on the world stage, the 20 year old converted a front row start to a victory as she had secured a stunning pace with her Kawasaki Ninja 300 machine. Locked in a race long battle with the championship contenders, it all came down to the final lap as Carrasco had to fight off Marc Garcia (Halcourier Racing) and Alfonso Coppola (SK Racing). Getting into a strong position in the final corners, she was able to take advantage of the slipstream and take the victory by 0.053s.

Delighted to be stood on the top step for the first time this season, Carrasco begins: “I am really happy today because I think we deserved this result. I am so happy for my team as they have been making big steps in every round, and I want to say thank you to all of them because they have given me a bike that they worked really hard on.”

In the intense race, Carrasco was able to keep her cool and produce some strong moves on the final lap, determined to pull off an impressive race: “My plan was the whole race to stay behind Marc (Garcia), he was the fastest rider the whole race, and I planned to attack on the last lap. I wanted to be leading the last lap but he was so fast, he overtook me but on the final straight, with the slipstream, I could pass him at the line. I have secured my first victory and I am really happy.”

Carrasco will take this victory forward to Magny-Cours now full of confidence and with the world congratulating her on the historic achievement. Relive all the WorldSSP300 action from Autodromo Internacional do Algarve on the VideoPass.
