Althea BMW rider takes victory in 9 lap sprint

After an initial start was red flagged, the start of the STK1000 race at the TT Circuit Assen was delayed as an oil spill on track was cleaned. With the new race distance shortened to a 9 lap sprint, it was Althea BMW rider Raffaele de Rosa who took victory by over ten seconds, after also proving fastest in morning Warm Up, taking the lead in the title standings.

Pedercini Racing Kawasaki rider Jeremy Guarnoni took P2 on his ZX 10R, whilst Aragón podium finisher Michael Ruben Rinaldi took another rostrum for the Aruba.it Junior Team by coming home in P3, outracing experienced teammate Leandro Mercado, who brought the second Aruba.it Junior Team bike home in P9.

Key STK1000 protagonist Florian Marino missed the Race at Assen after a crash in qualifying and Ricardo Russo, his Yamaha teammate, also failed to see the chequered flag after Luca Marconi suffered a problem and dropped oil on the track.

Marco Faccani, after being unable to start the Race in Aragon due to a technical issue, came home fourth in the Netherlands, ahead of Andrea Mantovani and Luca Salvadori. Wayne Tessels was the top local rider in P7, with compatriot Rob Hartog also reaching the Top 10 to please the home crowd.

Race 3 of the 2016 STK1000 Cup will be back on track in Imola at the end of April, as Mercado seeks to take back the crown and the title lead.
