Kawasaki 1-2 in Tissot-Superpole 2

Tissot-Superpole 2 got underway at 10:55am local time (GMT+2) at the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours, seeing WorldSBK riders take to a very wet track after morning rains. Superpole 2 saw Kawasaki Racing Team’s Jonathan Rea and Tom Sykes fight it out for pole at the top of the timesheets as the top times constantly alternated between the two rivals. It was reigning World Champion Jonathan Rea who in a last minute dash, put in the fastest time to the top spot from his teammate Tom Sykes, for his maiden pole position this season. Friday’s fastest Aruba.it Racing –Ducati’s Chaz Davies took third on the grid.

Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team’s Sylvain Guintoli seemed to get to grips with the track, taking the fourth grid position. Guintoli complained about a lack of grip in Friday’s practice but seemed to overcome that on Saturday morning to ensure an advantageous start in the weekend’s races. Leon Camier ensured a fifth grid start for MV Agusta Reparto Corse, even though his session ended early after crashing out in the last minutes of the session.

Frenchman Matthieu Lagrive (Pedercini Kawasaki) and Honda World Superbike Team’s Nicky Hayden were able to overcome the slippery conditions in Superpole 1 to finish fastest in P1 and 2, seeing them graduate to Superpole 2.

In the later session, Hayden finished in seventh, one place behind his teammate Michael van der Mark (P6) on the grid, with IodaRacing’s Lorenzo Savadori locking out P8 on the grid.

Frenchman Lagrive briefly led the Superpole 2 session proving a home advantage but was eventually beaten by the more experienced riders in the field. Lagrive eventually finished in ninth ahead of Barni Racing’s Xavi Fores in tenth.

Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team’s Alex Lowes put on an impressive performance in Superpole 2 to come home in P11, as the Brit limped onto his bike before the session, as a result of his crash in yesterdays practice. Althea BMW Racing Team’s Jordi Torres locked out the P12 on the grid.

WorldSBK Race 1 will get underway at 13:00 local time, which could see a wet race take place.
