BMW Team Toth hails ‘dream’ Imola weekend

Three points finishes for Hungarian team.

There was delight in the BMW Team Toth garage in Italy on Sunday evening, with the squad having picked up no less than three points finishes across the pair of Imola races. The results meant that both riders, Imre Toth Jr. and Gabor Rizmayer, had scored their first top 15 finishes of the 2015 World Superbike season.

On Saturday, it looked as though Toth had done enough to qualify for Superpole 1 for the first time this season, although Grillini SBK Team’s Santiago Barragan put in an identical lap time in Free Practice 3 which demoted Toth at the very last moment. Toth and Rizmayer would go on to start the races from 19th and 20th positions, both promoted by one spot after other Grillini rider Niccolo Canepa was taken ill.

The two Team Toth riders would find themselves fighting each other for the final point in Race 1, with Toth Jr. overhauling Rizmayer on the final tour. In the second encounter, they took full advantage of the overall attrition to pick up the team’s best World Superbike result to date: 12th and 13th for Toth and Rizmayer, respectively.

“We had two fantastic races, yet we have to push a lot more,” Toth commented. “Our race pace is still not good, but the improvements on the bike and securing Csaba Kulik as my mechanic has filled us with hope. Both races went down to the wire, fighting with Gabor, and it was amazing. Finally I can say we made some progress. Obviously, we can't stop here and improve for Donington in every way. I'm very happy because this is the first time I have scored points in both races in day.”

“Finally!” Rizmayer added. “After missing out on points since Magny-Cours last year, I finally made it! We had a two race long fights with Imre and it was amazing! The weather was a bit too warm for our bikes, but the improvements we made are worth it. I really can't wait the British Round, where I hope we can make further steps.”

The aforementioned British Round will take place following a one-week break.
