Rea quickest in the wet

The first Saturday Superbike session at Portimao was held entirely in the wet. Several top riders including Biaggi and Byrne stayed in their pit garages while Max Neukirchner, Ten Kate's new signing, racked up the most laps, 28. At the end of the session the quickest of the 16 riders who went out was Jonathan Rea, whose time of 1 minute 55.062 seconds was around 13 seconds off the pace set in the dry. Rea was followed by yesterday's pace-setter Haslam, Vermeulen and Crutchlow.
