Magny-Cours: a look back at 2010

A determined Biaggi took the lead at the first start, fighting with Crutchlow all along the first couple of corners and resisting a pass attempt by Guintoli at the Adelaide hairpin. After a very close fighting during the early laps, Biaggi came out on top, while Crutchlow, Fabrizio and Guintoli were left fighting for second. It was only a matter of time though, before Crutchlow was able to free himself and set after Biaggi, before passing him on the eighth lap at the Adelaide hairpin. Max resisted until the next 180° turn, but had to give up, leaving Cal free to go for a solitary win. The fight for second was not over, with Biaggi, Checa, Haslam, Guintoli and Fabrizio all able to have their say. After countless changes of positions, the last lap was decisive as Biaggi lost second to Haslam at the Lycee turn: Max was off the line, jumped on the kerb and Checa was also able to pip it for third, right on the finish line.

In race two Guintoli took the lead at the Adelaide hairpin in front of Biaggi, Crutchlow and Haga: the French managed to hold it until the eighth lap in front of Biaggi, while behind them the two works Ducatis challenged Crutchlow. Once free of Haga and Fabrizio, Crutchlow set after the leading duo and Biaggi decided it was time to take the lead, doing so at the Nurburgring turn. His pace though didn't allow him to pull away: Max benefited from the high top speed of his Aprilia, an average of 8-10 kph faster than his rivals. With that margin Biaggi was unassailable at the Adelaide hairpin. The turning point of the race happened on the fifteenth lap, when Crutchlow was able to get rid of Guintoli and started challenging Biaggi. The duo pulled away from the French, which was in turn caught and passed by Fabrizio. Biaggi was able to resist to all the attempts made by Crutchlow and came out as the winner, while the fight for third lasted until the chequered flag, when Fabrizio was able to take the lower step of the podium in front of Guintoli.
