Biaggi closes up on Checa
Max Biaggi (Aprilia Alitalia) was the biggest improver in the second and final qualifying session, the Italian moving into second place before the all-important Superpole decider. Another man on the move was Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) who closed right up on the front-runners ahead of Sylvain Guintoli (Ducati Effenbert - Liberty Racing).

Jonathan Rea (Castrol Honda) continued to set a good pace in fifth, with his fellow Irishman Eugene Laverty (Yamaha World Superbike Team) and Leon Haslam (BMW Motorrad) right behind. Michel Fabrizio (Suzuki Alstare) wrapped up the top 10, with Marco Melandri (Yamaha World Superbike Team) finishing in twelfth.

With the new top-16 Superpole rule, Leon Camier (Aprilia Alitalia), Ayrton Badovini (BMW Motorrad Italia) and Roberto Rolfo (Kawasaki Pedercini) were three of the riders who failed to make the cut.
