SBK® returned from the summer break with dominating racing action

Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) continued to show everyone why he was a three time world champion, as the British rider was dominating the second half of the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship season, and this didn’t stop in Portimao.

Winning race one ahead of Marco Melandri (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati), Rea was continuing on a sensational run of form, as he was getting closer to securing his fourth world championship title. Dominating in true Rea style in race one, he faced his third row challenge for race two but wasn’t phased. Locked in an early battle with Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati), Rea was able to get into the lead by lap 12 and never looked back. Whilst further down the field, Michael van der Mark (Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team) had a resurge in his pace and secured a podium finish.

Drama struck in WorldSSP, as Lucas Mahias (GRT Yamaha Offical WorldSSP Team) officially secured the win after he was initially disqualified following a failure to return to the pits when the red flags were waved. Scott Deroue (MTM Kawasaki) secured the win in the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship, as Roberto Tamburini (Berclaz Racing Team) threw a curve ball to take the STK1000 podium.
