Phillip Island opens a rollercoaster of a season

Opening the 2018 season with a bang, fans were treated to the traditionally sensational racing action around the legendary Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit. It was a shockingly sensational win for Marco Melandri (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) in race one, the Italian was able to dominate and take the win by over a second to open the season. But he didn’t stop there, as even with the reversed grid rules he took the win in the second race of the weekend by 0.021s over the line in a classic Phillip Island battle.
In the FIM Supersport World Championship battle, it was a sprint to the line which was won by reigning world champion Lucas Mahias, with rookie to the class Sandro Cortese fighting for the podium in the closing laps.
