British rider has a strong opening to 2018

Heading into his third season on board the Yamaha YZF-R1, Alex Lowes (Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team) had a productive two days around the Southern Spanish circuit of Jerez, ending day one in the top three and day two with some good progress made.

Enjoying being back on his bike after the winter break, Lowes took the opening day around the 4.4km circuit steadily before working through the set-up of his bike in the afternoon. Working closely on his corner entry and confidence on the machine, he will also look at chassis parts and developing the feeling on the bike. Despite his lap time at the end of the day leaving him in eighth position, he had pace to fight higher up the timing sheets.

Lowes explains: “After the winter both bikes were new, so we had to check everything which meant it started off slowly, but by the end of the day we did a lot of good work. We looked at improving the entry on the corner and my confidence, and I think we made some good steps. It was a positive day and I enjoyed riding the bike again. We wanted to carry on in the second day, we have new parts to try, it’s nice to be back with the guys and everything is going good.”

Keep up with the rest of Lowes’ pre-season progress before the WorldSBK season kicks off Down Under from 23rd-25th February, all with the WorldSBK VideoPass.
