Italian WorldSBK champion continues to recover from Supermoto crash

Two time World Superbike champion Max Biaggi has undergone further treatment in San Camillo Hospital, as his fight for recovery continues following a Supermoto training crash in Italy on Friday 9th June. The Italian was air lifted to hospital, and it was later announced he has suffered thoracic trauma and multiple rib fractures.

Never losing consciousness, Biaggi was speaking with both doctors and family members and at 17.30 he underwent a scan which excluded spinal cord injuries. Following weeks spent in intensive care and with every effort in place to help the 45 year old with his recovery, Biaggi has now had another operation which will has shown positive signs so far.

In a latest statement from the hospital, it was explained: “Max Biaggi yesterday underwent a successfully thoracoscopic toilette of the right pleural cavity (the thin fluid-filled space between the two pulmonary pleurae of each lung). In the evening intubation (tube which enters the windpipe) was removed, and there were satisfactory vital signs. He continues epidural antalgic treatment and non invasive respiratory support. The prognosis remains reserved, and he was always admitted in intensive care.
