British rider takes positive steps on opening day at Assen

British rider Leon Camier (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) has shaken off the bad luck he has undergone so far on the opening day of the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship weekends, as he secured a top six finish around the legendary TT Circuit Assen.

Finishing 0.712s behind fastest man of the day Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team), Camier set a lap time of 1.36.095 to end the day with a strong pace ahead of the all important Saturday, with Superpole and Race One.

Putting in a fast lap towards the end of the session is something he has been unable to do so far this season, and with few technical issues this weekend he hopes to be fighting closer to the front in the races on Saturday and Sunday.

At the circuit he secured his first WorldSBK podium at, Camier is hopeful ahead of the weekend: “Hopefully our gremlins are now gone, we had a few little issues in the session which means we lost a few laps in the middle, but all in all the bike was working good at the end of the session. Even on race tyres we still need to make a step I think but I think it’s possible to be in the next group back from the front guys. I don’t think it’s possible to be up at the front at all but the next group back I think is possible to be in that group if everything goes well. I didn’t make a massive step, we just put the tyre in and I managed to put a good lap together.”
