Aprilia rider eager to get back on track as the first races of the year at Phillip Island approach

The news of IodaRacing's arrival to the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship came with less than a month to go before the first race of the season, and riders Lorenzo Savadori and Alex De Angelis haven't been able to fully test their Aprilia RSV4 RF bikes as yet. De Angelis, recovering from a terrible accident during the MotoGP race weekend at Motegi last year, is the only Aprilia rider who has been able to ride the bike before the team arrives to Australia, using a private test at MotorLand Aragon last week to familiarise himself with the new machine. The test, however, was more to check the physical condition of the rider from San Marino ahead of his WorldSBK debut. The reigning champion in the STK1000 Cup, Savadori, is impatient to kick the new stage of his career into gear and spoke to WorldSBK.com ahead of his journey to Australia.

“I can’t wait to try the bike! It’s been a long time since I rode, since Magny-Cours last year, but we’re almost there now. I can’t wait to get on the Aprilia that Jordi Torres and Leon Hallam rode last year, it’s a competitive bike and it won the last two race of 2015 in Qatar.

“I will have to try and learn as much as I can as quickly as I can. It won’t be easy to make the leap to the category without having done any testing. We’ll try and learn everything calmly. I don’t know the team, or more I mean I only know them by name. I’ve been in the WorldSBK paddock since 2011 and I feel happy to work with them, I’m sure they have a lot to teach me and I’m pleased about that. I’m leaving for Phillip Island almost feeling more like a rookie; the bike I rode last year is very different and I think the tyres will prove a big difference too.”

Savadori and De Angelis will be able to push their new bike in the last tests in Australia, on Monday and Tuesday before the new era of WorldSBK begins.
