The second Round of the season kicked the new era of WorldSBK into another gear

The 2016 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship got underway with an incredible weekend of duels to the finish in Phillip Island, and the stunning wheel-to-wheel action at Chang International Circuit in Thailand kept everyone on the edge of their seat for what now seems clear is going to be a season to remember.

Defending Champion Jonathan Rea did the double in Buriram last year, and it seemed like he would do the same in 2016. After a winter of pre-season testing highs, however, his teammate Tom Sykes had other ideas. Ducati had a tough Round in Thailand during the first round held there, but were intent to fight back and show their now race-winning Panigale R off to their rivals as the Championship contender it is. Honda and Yamaha were in the chase for the podium too, with Michael van der Mark especially having begun the season in Australia with a 100% podium record and looking to keep that going.

In WorldSSP, new boy Randy Krummenacher looked to defend his Championship lead from reigning Champion and teammate Sofuoglu, and MV Agusta’s Cluzel looked to put Australia behind him and get back to winning ways after a difficult off-season and 2015…

So what happened on track when the lights went out? Relive all the best bits from the incredible second Round right here!
