After crashing spectacularly in Superpole 2 as he entered the start and finish straight on a hot lap, Spaniard David Salom (Team Pedercini) was transported after initial checks at the Phillip Island circuit to the Royal Melbourne hospital.

Despite the heavy fall, Salom was conscious and breathing unaided when he was transported and is currently undergoing further examinations.

WorldSBK.com will update news on his condition as it becomes available.

Final update: WorldSBK Medical director Monica Lazzarotti reported that David Salom has a fractured third finger of the left hand and concussion (needs surgery once back home). He wants to be discharged tonight and the team is going to pick him up.
