17 Karel Abraham

Date of Birth

Born in Brno, Czech rider Abraham is making the switch to WorldSBK this season after beginning his career in the MotoGP World Championship. Making his way through the support classes of the sister paddock, Abraham first raced in the 125 World Championship in 2005 before moving up the ranks to 250 and thereafter into the newly inaugurated Moto2 class in 2010. In 2010, he scored two podiums, his first coming at the Twin Ring Motegi followed quite soon after by his second: a first Grand Prix victory at the season-closer in Cheste, Valencia. Moving up to MotoGP the following season with Cardion AB Motoracing, Abraham has since ridden Ducati, ART and Honda machinery in the top class and earned a season best result of 14th in the Championship, with a good number of points-scoring results to his name. After a crash during the MotoGP race weekend in Catalunya in 2015, Abraham struggled during the season to find fitness again, missing 4 rounds thereafter and returning early to try and race in Brno in front of his home crowd. After attempting to race with the injuries sustained earlier in the season for 4 further rounds, Abraham was then replaced for the flyaway races and the season ending showdown in Valencia to allow him to fully recover. He comes to WorldSBK in 2016 hoping to put a recent record of health struggles behind him and take on the new and exciting challenge of the BMW S1000 RR.
