Miguel Oliveira is a big-name rookie in the 2026 season as he moves from MotoGP as a five-time winner. The Portuguese star lines up at the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team alongside Danilo Petrucci as he faces a new challenge as he steps into WorldSBK for the first time, aiming to return to the front of the field after a couple of challenging years.
BMW (2026-)
Oliveira’s first foray into WorldSBK came with BMW at the factory team alongside Petrucci. He got his first taste of the M1000RR at the end of November 2025 and was instantly on his teammate’s pace despite having to adapt to new machinery and new tyres.
Before WorldSBK
Oliveira had a stand-out career inside the Grand Prix paddock across several years. He made his 125cc World Championship debut in 2011 before remaining on the grid for 2012 as that morphed into Moto3 and he claimed his first podiums in the category in Barcelona and at Phillip Island that season. It was in 2015 when the Portuguese rider really made his mark, finishing second with six victories and he moved into Moto2 for 2016. A tricky first year was followed up with his first wins in 2017, winning the final three races, as he finished in third in 2017 before going one better in 2018; three more wins helped him to second in the standings as he narrowly missed out on the title to Pecco Bagnaia by just seven points. Nevertheless, a seat with KTM beckoned for 2020 as he spent his rookie year learning the new category before he claimed his first win in spectacular fashion at the 2020 Styrian Grand Prix, beating Jack Miller and Pol Espargaro at the final corner. In total, he secured five wins and seven podiums in MotoGP and raced for KTM, Aprilia and Yamaha.
