Rising Italian star Alberto Surra made a name for himself in WorldSSP with replacement rides and his performances helped earn a shot at WorldSBK on Ducati machinery, with Motocorsa Racing. It’ll be a tough learning curve for the rider who has most notably been a contender in the Moto2 European Championship, but his WorldSSP stand-in rides showed his potential.

Ducati (2026-)

Surra makes the switch to WorldSBK from the Moto2 European Championship where he was a regular podium contender, joining Lorenzo Mauri’s Motocorsa Racing squad on the new-for-2026 Panigale V4 R.

WorldSSP

Surra’s first World Supersport adventure came in 2025 as he stood in for Aldi Mahendra at Evan Bros. Yamaha and stunned with a podium on debut. He was rarely outside the top ten during his four rounds, which also coincided with the business end of the Moto2 European Championship and a Moto2 wildcard.

Before WorldSSP

Surra spent three seasons in the Moto2 European Championship from 2023 and claimed five podiums in his first campaign. In 2024, he added six rostrums including one victory, while he also won twice in his final year in the Championship. He also enjoyed domestic success in Italy, including finishing as runner-up in CIV Moto3 in 2019 and 2020.
