PORTIMAO REWIND: Rea’s first WorldSBK race and the #65’s last Honda win

Tuesday, 17 March 2026 09:33 GMT

With Rea making a return to WorldSBK action at Portimao with Honda, why not take a look back at two memorable moments from his career?

Jonathan Rea (Honda HRC) will be back on the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship grid at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve with Honda, 18 years on from his debut in the Championship with Honda. In 2008, Rea received a call-up to race for Hannspree Ten Kate Racing and immediately made a name for himself: he was on the front row in his first round, alongside Troy Bayliss who was preparing for his last (although he later returned to action in 2015). In Race 1, Rea finished a remarkable P4, catching the eye of everyone in the paddock.

Flashs forward to 2014, and Rea was racing in his last season for Honda. Portimao was the scene of Rea’s final win for the Japanese manufacturer. Rain fell in the afternoon ahead of Race 2 and soaked the rollercoaster venue, but the #65 was able to go and claim victory for Honda. It would be his last time on the top step of the podium for the brand before he moved to Kawasaki for 2015. You can watch both races for FREE by clicking the videos at the top of this page!
