Masia pips Bayliss for P1 to remain atop the timesheets after a rainy conclusion to Day 2 of the Australia Test
Booth-Amos and Mahias land back up near the front to conclude the final test day of the 2026 preseason
The FIM Supersport World Championship has concluded their pair of days on track for the Official Australia Test, and with that, the field is set for the first salvo of racing action this Friday! Day 2 saw riders continue to dial in their setups, enjoying sunny conditions for a full FP1, and around 20 minutes of dry time before rain began to fall on track, reminiscent of blustery conditions at Jerez and Portimao, but luckily, the track quickly dried out for another stint before the rain returned and limited the pace. Day 2 featured another masterful performance from Jaume Masia (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) as he commanded the top spot again after leading the way on Day 1. Ahead of his home round, Oli Bayliss (PTR Triumph Factory Racing) took P2, just ahead of his teammate Tom Booth-Amos (PTR Triumph Factory Racing).
MASIA COMPLETES HIS SWEEP: The Spanish #5 topped each of the four testing sessions Down Under
Jaume Masia (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) got straight back to business on Day 2 in Australia as his 1’32.525s time was his fastest across both days and defended his spot above the rest on Tuesday. Oli Bayliss (PTR Triumph Factory Racing) enjoyed another strong day at his old stomping grounds, landing P2 for the second time in two days on the back of a 1’32.559s time. Bayliss’s teammate Tom Booth-Amos joined the Aussie at the front after a late 1’32.713s effort sent him up the order to third place.
MAHIAS BACK IN THE MIX: The Frenchman goes up to fifth-fastest
Phillipp Oettl was right around the fast form he had shown throughout the test; his 1’32.713s time took him to P4 to close out the testing days. Lucas Mahias (GMT94 Yamaha) built on his P10 placement on Day 1 to climb up to P5 by the close of Day 2 thanks to his 1’32.859s lap in FP2. Ondrej Vostatek (Compos Racing Team) concluded what was a standout showing across both days of testing, taking P6 on Tuesday with a time of 1’32.862s after landing in the same position on Day 1. Alessandro Zaccone (Ecosantagata Althea Racing Team) is getting up to speed back atop a combustion-powered bike, only just missing the 1’32s mark, but his 1’33.001s time was enough to take him to seventh place.
ALCOBA TURNS IT AROUND: After P20 after Day 1, Alcoba lands P8
Ahead of his sophomore season, Spanish Kawasaki rider Jeremy Alcoba (Kawasaki WorldSSP Team) logged a 1’33.016s time to slide up to P8 after a complicated Day 1. Albert Arenas (AS BLU CRU Racing Team) took P9 on a 1’33.075s lap as he looks to translate his Moto3 successes into WorldSSP. Valentin Debise (ZXMOTO Factory Evan Bros Racing) and his new ZXMOTO 820RR look to already be in striking distance of the podium ahead of what will be the Chinese manufacturer’s first round in WorldSSP. He clocked a 1’33.079s to snag P10.
WHATLEY CONTINUES ASKING QUESTIONS: The English rider places again around the top 10
Josh Whatley (Orelac Racing Verdnatura) continues to hang around the top ten as he closed Day 2 with a 1’33.108s time to take P11. Aldi Mahendra (AS BLU CRU Racing Team) announced himself back up the order in P12 after a 1’33.152s time. Rounding out the top 15 spots, Matteo Ferrari (WRP Racing) earned P13 with a 1’33.153s time, Xavi Cardelus (Cerba Yamaha Racing Team) took P14 with a 1’33.167s effort, and Simon Jespersen (EAB Racing Team) landed P15 thanks to his 1’33.186s time. Can Oncu (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing) will hope to find another gear on the weekend, as with the chequered flag waving on Day 2, the title favourite sat in P19. Jacopo Cretaro (Flembbo by Racing Development) was ruled fit after a Turn 11 crash in FP1 and went on to take P23. Dominique Aegerter (Kawaski WorldSSP Team) will hope for a step in Free Practice ahead of the race weekend and closes Day 2 in P24.
