LESS THAN A TENTH IN IT: Oncu secures Most pole ahead of Mahias, Debise P3 but penalised
World Supersport broke the seal on Superpole action at Most in dramatic fashion on Friday
We’re off and running at the Autodrom Most as the FIM Supersport World Championship has cut the ribbon on Tissot Superpole action in the Czech Round. Can Oncu (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing) was the quickest across the line in Round 5’s first race for the #61’s sixth career pole position. Following him on the timesheets, Lucas Mahias (GMT94 Yamaha) will start from P2, and Valentin Debise (EASTROC ZXMOTO Factory Evan Bros Racing) finished with the third-best time, but due to a Free Practice three-position penalty, he will start from P6, promoting Albert Arenas (AS BLU CRU Racing Team) up to the front row.
ONCU ON A HEATER
Oncu continues to stack up strong results after his slow start to the season. The Turk takes the pole after a time of 1'33.802s. Lucas Mahias looked poised for his second pole of the season as he clocked in within the top three times for most of the session. He, however, was unable to snag the fastest time, landing in second with his time just five hundredths slower than Oncu. Valentin Debise finished with a 1’33.884s time, good for P3. However, due to a slow-riding penalty incurred in the final ten minutes of their Free Practice, he was given a three-place grid position penalty by the FIM WorldSBK Stewards, sending him back to P6. With the penalty applied, Albert Arenas benefitted on Friday, landing his third consecutive front row on the back of his 1’33.897s
BAYLISS BACK IN BUSINESS
Oli Bayliss (PTR Triumph Factory Racing) is back in the paddock with a vengeance after missing Race 2 with a right elbow contusion, which resulted from a Turn 5 crash last round. This time around, he finished fifth fastest, just a tenth behind Arenas. His best Superpole result since his home round in the 2026 season opener. After a thunderous performance last round, with a 1’34.125s time, Roberto Garcia (GMT94 Yamaha) finished in P6, but with Debise’s penalty, he will start from P5.
MAHENDRA MAKES IT COUNT
Tom Booth-Amos (PTR Triumph Factory Racing) was seventh fastest because of his 1’34.198s time, making for two Triumph machines in the top ten for the first time since the season opener at Phillip Island. After a red flag-inducing tech issue in the morning’s Free Practice, Aldi Mahendra (AS BLU CRU Racing Team) improved to P8 in the final minutes of the session through a 1’34.215s time. Simon Jespersen (EAB Racing Team) booked himself a late ticket to P9 with less than 10 minutes remaining; the Dane’s time was just five hundredths off from Mahendra. Federico Caricasulo (EASTROC ZXMOTO Factory Evan Bros Racing) looks to be getting the hang of his new ZXMOTO 820RR as his 1’34.294s time placed in the top ten for the second consecutive Superpole session. Currently second in the Riders’ Championship standings, Jaume Masia (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) was unable to crack the top three rows and will see lights out from P12 via his 1’34.510s time.
