The 2026 FIM Yamaha R3 BLU CRU World Cup gets underway this weekend as the highly anticipated opening round takes place at the Balaton Park Circuit, Hungary. Marking the start of a new season, the one-make championship brings together some of the most promising competitors from 11 different countries around the world in a bid to showcase their talents on the world stage.

The 24-rider grid will feature returning competitors such as American talent Chris Clark (BGR Smrz Racing) - who made history with his win in last year’s season opener at Portimao, and young Dutch rider Indi Schunselaar (Yamaha Ten Kate Racing) who is entering his third year in the series after showing strong progression in previous years.

For 2026, the series features its strongest Japanese contingent yet, with five riders joining the full-time grid from Yamaha’s home country, including previous podium finishers Kakeru Okunuki and Jean Kento Turner. Hinata Okada makes his full-time debut in the season having wildcarded last year as well as appearing at the BLU CRU Master Camp.

Also returning to the grid this year is Dominican Republic talent Xarly Mendez De Oleo (DPR Team) who made an early statement of intentions by topping the season opening test timesheets at Cremona Circuit in Italy during the official two-day pre-season test on the 8-9 April.

Entering the championship for their first full season is a host of new riders including Charlie Huntingford, Frederico Guimaraes, and Greg Marshall, as well as Brazilian talent Leonardo Marques Barbim who participated in the 2025 BLU CRU Mastercamp – all of whom will be hoping to make their mark and showcase their talents on the world stage.

With reigning champion Alessandro Di Persio stepping up to the all-new FIM Sportbike World Championship with Yamaha Motor Europe support, the battle for the World Cup title is wide open, creating a huge opportunity for both returning riders and ambitious newcomers to step up and take the crown. With a highly competitive field assembled for 2026, the stage is set for a season full of exciting battles, fearless overtakes and breakout performances.

The weekend will get underway for the FIM Yamaha R3 BLU CRU World Cup competitors for FP on Friday at 09:00 CET, with their first Superpole session of the year taking place at 13:30 CET.
