The Italian has his eyes locked on a Portuguese triple, and Sunday morning’s pace is a good omen for his pursuit of it

As the Pirelli Portuguese Round enters its final day, the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship riders took to the track for one last Warm Up session before opening up the throttle and charging into their final two events on Sunday. Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) was fastest among the field in the morning’s session at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve, with his Ducati independent rival and both Bimota bikes close behind.

Nicolo Bulega hopes to maintain his chokehold on the Championship as he led the Warm Up session with a 1’40.216s time. Sam Lowes (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) was the faster of the Lowes brothers as he took his independent Ducati around the rollercoaster circuit faster to take P2 with a time of 1’40.514s.

Alex Lowes (bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team) and Axel Bassani showed more of the pace they displayed at Phillip Island,  an encouraging sign for Bimota as their riders took P3 and P4 respectively, with Axel clocking in three hundredths behind the #22’s time of 1’40.543s. Iker Lecuona (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) continues to show progress atop his 2026 Ducati Panigale V4R after yesterday's P2 in Race 1 and in the Tissot Superpole session. He placed P5 with a time of 1’40.545s.

Yari Montella (Barni Spark Racing Team) was again impressive in Race 1 at Portimao, following his podium in Australia, until a lowside crash cost him his rostrum hopes. In Sunday Morning’s Warm Up, he was sixth fastest with a time of 1’40.731s. Xavi Vierge (Pata Maxus Yamaha) again takes top Yamaha honours with a time of 1’41.009 in P7. Danilo Petrucci (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) was the quicker of the pair of BMWs after home hero Miguel Oliveira (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) led them in Race 1. ‘Petrux’ took P8 with a 1’41.341s time. Rounding out the top 10, Andrea Locatelli (Pata Maxus Yamaha) and Alberto Surra (Motocorsa Racing) snagged P9 and P10 spots, Surra clocking in just three thousandths slower than ‘Loka’s 1’41.393s time.
