Yari Montella tops Sunday morning’s rain-affected WorldSBK Warm-Up session at Most
Yari Montella was the faster of the two riders who completed laps in Sunday morning’s Warm-Up, wet conditions leading many riders to simply stay in their boxes
Yari Montella (Barni Spark Racing Team) topped the session as on-track action at Most has officially kicked off with the Sunday-opening MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship Warm-Up session. Only a handful of riders took to the track as it was another damp morning at Autodrom Most’s Motul Czech Round. Montella and Dominique Aegerter (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) were the only riders who registered lap times, Aegerter being the slower of the pair. While he didn’t register a full lap time, Andrea Locatelli (Pata Maxus Yamaha) crashed during the session, a minor lowside on Turn 7 which saw him walk away unscathed.
Montella's 1’42.975s lap was enough to see him top the session, the wet track conditions lowering the pace we saw yesterday. 2.913s behind him on the timesheet saw Dominique Aegerter (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) lay down the second fastest time of the pair who finished laps with his time of 1’45.888s. While they did not register completed lap times as they quickly decided against pushing on the wet conditions, Zaqhwan Zaidi (PETRONAS MIE Honda Racing Team), teammate Tarran Mackenzie (PETRONAS MIE Honda Racing Team), Andrea Locatelli (Pata Maxus Yamaha), and Xavi Vierge (Honda HRC) all made brief appearances before returning to the garage to wait out the weather in anticipation for 11:00’s (local time UTC +2) WorldSBK Tissot Superpole Race.
