"This year was amazing… Bea was very fast!" – Herrera reacts to 2025 title success
The #6 was crowned Champion in Race 2 at Jerez after finishing sixth in the final race of the 2025 season
Maria Herrera (Klint Forward Racing Team) wrapped up the 2025 FIM Women’s Circuit Racing World Championship title after a P6 finish in Race 2 at the Circuito de Jerez - Angel Nieto, Andalucia. After missing out on last year’s crown in the season finale at the same circuit, the #6 made amends in 2025 despite a fierce fight throughout the year with Beatriz Neila (Ampito Crescent Yamaha), with Herrera able to wrap up the title in the final race of the Pirelli Spanish Round.
A SEASON TO REMEMBER: Six wins, 10 podiums
Herrera headed into the 2025 campaign as one of the pre-season favourites after finishing as runner-up in 2024. She got her campaign off to a winning start at Assen, after Neila was penalised in Race 1, before finishing directly behind the #36 in Race 2. In total, she won six races on her way to the title and finished on the rostrum in all but two races, showing both speed and consistency on her way to the title.
Discussing her season, the Spanish rider said: “It’s an amazing feeling because I wanted to finish the race more comfortable than I did! I hoped to be faster but Bea was closing the doors and the group was too big for me. I managed the position to battle, but I almost crashed several times with them. I’m very happy to finish and to say I’m World Champion. My team deserve it. Last year, we gave a lot to start the first year. It’s more than a Championship. All the effort from the whole team, this year and last, and also my family. The luck was with me today. The year was amazing. Bea was fast and I’m proud to have finished and enjoyed it this year.”
PRAISING HER RIVAL: Kind words for Neila
Herrera had kind words for rival Neila too, who finished just five points behind her compatriot after taking a huge step forward in 2025. Neila finished every race on the podium this year, something Herrera was unable to manage, with four wins from 12 races and two pole positions. Although she came up just short, the #36 took three times as many podiums in 2025 compared to last year, and four victories after taking none in 2024.
Discussing her title rival this year, Herrera was full of praise for Neila: “Bea, for me, also deserved the Championship. She was very fast and, in the second race every weekend, she was strong. I had to work hard to battle her. I think this year was tougher than last year. Both riders deserved this Championship.”
