STATS GUIDE: key numbers from WorldSBK’s first 998 races
Ahead of WorldSBK’s 1000th race, it’s time to take a look back at some of the key numbers from the Championship’s previous 998 races
The MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship is ready to celebrate a milestone race: the Tissot Superpole Race of the Hungarian Round is scheduled to be the 1000th in the Championship’s history. Balaton Park will host the momentous occasion and, to celebrate the landmark, here are some stats from the 998 races run so far – from Donington Park, Race 1 back in 1988 to Donington Park, Race 2 in 2025.
36,157 – Jonathan Rea has raced more than 36,000km in his WorldSBK starts. In total across all riders, around 2,000,000km have been raced – this is the same as going to the moon five times.
1165 – With 2994 podiums available in WorldSBK so far, Ducati have taken 1165 of these.
1094 – There have been almost 1100 riders in WorldSBK, with 1094 starting at least one race in the Championship.
998 – So far, WorldSBK has had 998 races. Race 1 at Balaton Park will be race 999, with the Superpole Race hosting the milestone 1000th race. Kawasaki have taken part in every race, while Ducati have 997 to their name.
800-900 – The last two milestone races for WorldSBK were won by Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team): Race 1 at Magny-Cours, 2019 and Race 1 at Mandalika, 2022. The former was Razgatlioglu’s first WorldSBK win, and the latter was a title-deciding race as Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) was crowned Champion.
456 – Jonathan Rea (Pata Maxus Yamaha) has the most starts in WorldSBK, with 456. This is 45.69% of all WorldSBK races. Troy Corser has the second most with 377 (37.77%).
443 – Ducati have won 443 races in WorldSBK history, more than any other manufacturer.
401 – Out of Rea’s 456 races, he’s scored points in 401 of them. This is around 40% of all WorldSBK races.
201 – The rider who’s led the most laps in WorldSBK history is Rea, with 201 (20.14% of all WorldSBK races). Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) follows with 116 (11.62%).
135 – More than 100 different riders have stood on the podium, with the total in the first 998 races standing at 135.
104 – Rea has record 104 fastest laps in his career (10.42% of all WorldSBK races).
83 – 83 different riders have won races. Rea has the most victories with 119 (11.92% of all WorldSBK races).
72 – 72 riders have claimed pole position in WorldSBK. The record holder is Tom Sykes, with 51.
54 – Including Balaton Park, 54 venues have hosted WorldSBK action. Phillip Island has had the most races, with 73.
25 – 25 different countries have hosted WorldSBK races, with Italy top of the list with 169.
