Razgatlioglu heads the field as Bulega crashes out at Sunday-opening Warm-Up session at Misano
‘El Turco’, Bautista and Alex Lowes were the three fastest in the ten-minute warmup session to get the ball rolling on Sunday
Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) opened Sunday fastest of the field by nearly seven tenths of a second as rival Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) crashed out of Sunday morning’s warmup session in a Turn 15 lowside that he walked away from unscathed. Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) looks to have bounced back strong from his off-pace Saturday in P2, leading Alex Lowes (bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team), who again was up around the front atop his Bimota KB998 Rimini.
STRONG SUNDAY START: Toprak starts Sunday the same as he ended Saturday, in P1
The #1’s 1’32.619s time led the grid on the timesheets and made him the only rider within the 1’32s mark on the session. Alvaro Bautista was the second-fastest, as he appears to have regained some speed on his bike, finishing with a time of 1’33.307s. Just two hundredths of a second slower than the #19, Bimota rider Alex Lowes finished in P3 with 1’33.329s as his fastest lap of the short session. His twin brother, Sam Lowes (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team), was hot on his heels with a lap time 0.05s slower than his brother on Bimota machinery for P4.
BASSANI P5: Both Bimotas in top five
With their Rimini headquarters just a stone’s throw away from Misano, the Bimota riders look to be in the mood this Sunday as Axel Bassani (bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team) and his 1’33.571s lap landed him P5 as the returning manufacturer chases their first podium since 2000. Ducati independent rookie Yari Montella (Barni Spark Racing Team) finished in P6 ahead of Iker Lecuona, who finished top Honda 0.022s slower than Montella’s time of 1’33.629s.
OVERDUE FOR A STANDOUT SUNDAY? Rea snags P8 to start Sunday
The #65 earned P8 on the back of his 1’33.811s lap, getting his nose in front of Championship leader Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) in P9, who crashed out around five minutes into the session, and finished with a time of 1’33.817s, just 0.006s slower than Rea. Rounding out the top 10, Race 1 podium placer Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team) finished with a time of 1’33.824s.
