Razgatlioglu looking to break his 13-straight race win record: "We have won many times; we might make history"
The #1 made short work of the French round, claiming his fourth consecutive hat trick and setting new records
Toprak’s return to his beloved Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours was poetry in motion from the Turk as he left the field in the dust on his way to his fourth consecutive hat-trick of the season. In doing so, he broke Jonathan Rea's (Pata Maxus Yamaha) record of nine wins at the French venue, setting a new MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship record of 12. With his Race 1 win, Toprak made further history as he became the first rider ever to have 10 wins or more at three separate circuits. While the defending Champion’s name is found more and more frequently in the record books, there are still some he could break before his departure to MotoGP in 2026.
LASER FOCUS: “It looks like we took everything, but it was not an easy weekend; every lap, I was pushing the limit, and I was trying to post a good pace”
While he won each race by a gap of more than 3.5 seconds, ‘El Turco’ highlighted that it was no cakewalk at Magny-Cours. He placed a particular focus this round on his race pace; he did several long stints during the Free Practices before the weekend’s race action. This decision paid off as later in the races, he was mentally prepared for the lonely laps at the front, where it can be easier to lose focus and make a mistake. With his Magny-Cours wins, he insulates himself further atop the field in the Riders’ Championship, now 39 points ahead of Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) in P2.
On his weekend at his favourite track, Razgatlioglu said: “It looks like we took everything, but it was not an easy weekend, every lap I was pushing the limit, and I was trying to post a good pace. In general, we did a very good job; this was a product of teamwork. This is my favourite track, every race I did a good job and made a big gap, but more importantly, we won the races. We've pulled off another hat trick, and now the focus is on Aragon.
A FAREWELL CHAMPIONSHIP DOUBLE? “Last year we didn’t take the Manufacturer’s championship, I hope we can take that too this year”
Before the season opener at the BMW factory team’s team launch event, the BMW team was talking about their hopes of winning both the Manufacturer’s and Riders’ Championships; however, much of that rhetoric appeared to dry up after the German manufacturer’s stunner of a season-opening round. Now that Toprak is back to his 2024 form and Michael van der Mark (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) is back around the podium fight as he was at Magny-Cours, the defending Champion is looking at other accolades too.
“Last year we didn’t take the Manufacturer’s championship, I hope we can take that too this year. I say again, though, this is a team accomplishment. I’m riding well, but everyone is working hard preparing the bike. We have won many times, we might make history, we will have to see. I’m really happy here working with the BMW guys; everyone is fantastic and working really hard. In the future, we might work together again. This is my last year in WorldSBK, but we’re continuing race by race to win the Riders’ title.”
