The first race of the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship started off with a bang as, rounding the first corner after lights out, three of the field’s regular top ten finishers collided just moments after their Race 1 contest had begun. All riders walked away from the incident, ruled fit by the medical centre, apart from Sam Lowes (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team), who, while he will compete on Sunday, was diagnosed with a left shoulder contusion.
