Match point for Di Persio in penultimate FIM R3 BLU CRU World Cup Round at Aragon
The Italian rider can clinch the title next time out at Aragon, potentially winning this year’s World Cup with a round to spare
The 2025 FIM Yamaha R3 BLU CRU World Cup returns this weekend alongside Round 10 of the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship at the MotorLand Aragon circuit in Spain, and it’s match point to series leader Alessandro Di Persio who has his first opportunity to secure championship victory with one round remaining.
Di Persio (Italy) has been the stand-out performer in the series’ opening four rounds, taking four victories and a further three second places from the first eight races to sit an impressive 53 points ahead of second-placed Chris Clark (USA). Should the Italian be able to maintain a 50-point lead by the end of the weekend’s two races, he’ll be crowned 2025’s champion.
Victorious in the opening race of the season, Chris Clark will be eager to return to the top step of the podium if he’s any hope of taking the title fight to the final round in Estoril. Indonesia’s Arai Agaska sits one point behind Clark in third and will be keen to add to his impressive season after taking his maiden victory in the series last time out at Balaton Park. The top three riders in the championship return to the track fresh from the recent BLU CRU Master Camp, where they were given the opportunity to hone their skills in a dedicated five-day training camp with mentoring from Yamaha’s MotoGP and WorldSBK riders.
Mario Salles (Brazil), who sits fifth in the championship standings, is the only rider on the grid who was on the podium at MotorLand 12 months ago, and having only made two trips to parc ferme this season, he’ll be looking to add to his success as he looks to enjoy a strong final two rounds.
One-event entries include Italy’s Ivan Spada, who impressed at Donington Park running in podium contention, Yauri Crienen of the Netherlands, Spain’s Ruben Montero Fuenta and Alessandro Binder of Switzerland.
The weekend’s action kicks off with Free Practice at 09:00 on Friday with the Superpole session setting the grid for the first race at 13:15. Race 1 takes place at 10:15 on Saturday with Race 2 at 10:05 on Sunday.
