Locatelli again near the top behind Bulega in rainy Warm-Up session at Assen’s final day
‘Bulegas’ showed his all-weather versatility at Assen on Sunday morning as rain limited the running and not all riders elected to take to the track ahead of the Tissot Superpole Race later today
Track action at the final day in Assen is underway as the FIM Superbike World Championship’s riders took to TT Circuit Assen for their warmup on Sunday morning. Due to heavy overnight rain saturating the track, some riders such as Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) and his teammate Michael van der Mark elected to stay in and did not participate in the session. Most of the grid however did make an appearance ahead of the Tissot Superpole Race later in the day.
Ducati riders had the better of the running on the short session, occupying five of the top six spots. Championship leader Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) topped the session, maintaining his blistering pace this weekend in rain or shine with the fastest lap of 1’45.102s. Following him back into the garages half a second behind him, Andrea Locatelli (Pata Maxus Yamaha) was second quickest on the session with a time of 1’45.601s. A tenth of a second behind his countryman for third on the timesheet was British star Scott Redding (MGM BONOVO Racing), who after a strong start to the season in Australia will look to come away from Assen in near the front.
Sam Lowes finished P4 (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) and did well to maintain his impressive pace shown in yesterday’s superpole race in which he earned his first WorldSBK pole. Yari Montella (Barni Spark Racing Team) led the pair of Barni Spark riders across the finish line, the rookie pipping his veteran teammate Danilo Petrucci by just over a third of a second for P5 and P6. WorldSBK racing action will resume in two hours’ time for the WorldSBK Tissot Superpole Race!
