Official Tyre Supplier Pirelli continue their development work as a new SCQ tyre is set to debut at Misano

Pirelli have unveiled their tyre solutions for the upcoming Pirelli Emilia-Romagna Round at the Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli”. There will be a new tyre for the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship teams and riders to understand with the introduction of a new SCQ development tyre, while there is also a development supersoft rear tyre as part of the allocation.

NEW SCQ TYRE: same compound as the standard with an innovative structure

The E0479 SCQ tyre is Pirelli’s latest extrasoft tyre and is based on feedback from the riders. It has the same compound as the standard SCQ but has an innovative structure that is designed to increase consistency, improve the contact patch and stability with the aim of delivering more grip and higher peak performance. Its use is limited to the Tissot Superpole session and Tissot Superpole Race. Elsewhere in the rear tyre allocation, the E0126 development supersoft is available, with a new structure compared to the standard SCX. The only standard solution available is the SC0 soft tyre.

FRONT TYRE OPTIONS: standard solutions all around

At the front, Pirelli have opted to bring just standard solutions. The softest available front tyre is the SC1 medium, used most commonly throughout the season due to its versatility at different circuits. The harder available option is the SC2 hard, offering better mechanical resistance when compared to the SC1 medium, as well as greater protection from wear.

WORLD SUPERSPORT TYRES: two fronts, two rears

For the WorldSSP field, Pirelli have opted for standard solutions at both the front and rear, with two choices at the front and rear. At the rear, the softest is the SCX supersoft and that’s joined by the standard SC0 soft; the SCX is the same compound as the standard SCX used in WorldSBK. At the front, the choices are between the SC1 medium and SC2 hard, with the SC1, like in WorldSBK, more commonly used.

PIRELLI SAYS: “This new solution has been designed to offer a larger footprint, greater grip and stability, and consistent performance”

Discussing the tyre allocation, Pirelli’s Motorcycle Racing Director, Giorgio Barbier, said: "After introducing a new soft, the E0125 specification, at Portimão and a development supersoft, the E0126, used at Assen and Cremona and which will also be present at Misano, now our development work continues by focusing on the extrasoft with the new E0479 specification, which represents an evolution of the standard SCQ from which it differs in a totally different structure. This new solution has been designed to offer a larger footprint, greater grip and stability, and consistent performance. The results obtained by E0125 and E0126 since their debut have been very encouraging, and we hope that E0479 will also be positively received. This is a solution designed to offer maximum performance on the flying lap while maintaining it very high even over the distance of 10 laps of the Superpole Race. If the conditions will be favourable, we will also be able to see the E0126 supersoft again in action at Misano, so as to gather further useful data."
