Bulega quickest in WorldSBK FP3 ahead of Razgatlioglu, Bassani and Gerloff show speed with P4 and P7
The Championship leader remained in top spot on Saturday morning with a 0.285s gap to his rivals as five manufacturers finished in the top seven
Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) started Saturday morning’s MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship action as he ended Friday – on top of the timesheets. ‘Bulegas’ was almost three tenths clear of his rivals during Free Practice 3 at the Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli”, with title rival Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) finishing in second and Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) in third for the final practice session at the Pirelli Emilia-Romagna Round.
Bulega continued to hold on P1 in the timesheets as he put in a stunning 1’32.323s to take top spot in FP3, while also – like all but two riders – going faster than yesterday’s times. Bulega was 0.285s clear of Razgatlioglu with ‘El Turco’ putting in a late lap of 1’32.608s to take P2, behind his title rival, with Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) in third. The #19 had been running in second until Razgatlioglu usurped him by a couple of tenths.
Axel Bassani (bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team) put in a late lap to ensure Bimota ended FP3 in the top four after he set a 1’32.915s, becoming just the fourth rider to lap in the 1’32s bracket. Sam Lowes (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) bounced back from tech issues in FP2 to take fifth in FP3 ahead of Andrea Locatelli (Pata Maxus Yamaha), with ‘Loka’ finishing as the lead Yamaha rider during the 20-minute session.
Garrett Gerloff (Kawasaki WorldSBK Team) showed his hand as he claimed seventh, although the Texan had been running as high as fourth around the halfway stage of the session after setting a 1’33.200s. He was ahead of Alex Lowes (bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team) in eighth while Dominique Aegerter (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) continued his strong weekend with ninth. Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team) rounded out the top ten.
