Bulega paves the way at the front in WorldSBK Warm-Up session on Donington’s final day
The current Championship leader looks to batton down the hatches and be prepared to defend his Title lead from the #1 in the two contests remaining today
Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) topped the Prosecco DOC UK Round’s Sunday Warm-Up session, showing improved pace ahead of Sam Lowes (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) and Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team), who recorded the three fastest times. The MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship riders looked to make their final preparations before they take to the track for the Tissot Superpole Race. The weather appears to be slightly more overcast than what was seen on Friday and Saturday, a development which will have to be monitored as it may have implications for grip and tyre choice in the Tissot Superpole Race coming up at 11:00 local time (UTC +1).
‘Bulegas’s 1’26.069s fastest lap was the quickest of the 10-minute session, 0.105s faster than Sam Lowes, who looked good considering his bruised left shoulder he suffered last at the outset of Saturday’s Race 1. In P3 loomed the Turkish defending Champion, his 1’26.244s time just 0.155s behind the Italian as he looks to do further damage to the #11’s Championship lead later today, now down to just four points after ‘El Turco’s Race 1 win.
Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) was back among the fastest in P4, he will look to recover points after his Race 1 DNF. Following him on the timesheet, Andrea Locatelli (Pata Maxus Yamaha) landed P5 thanks to his 1’26.468s time, just ahead of Race 1 podium-placing rider Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team) in P6.
