One of the main talking points in the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya was the fight between Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) and Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing) in Race 1 of the Prosecco DOC Catalunya Round. At Turn 3 on Lap 2, Rinaldi forced his way through Bassani on the inside and, at Turn 11, Bassani tried to go up the inside of Rinaldi to claim second position back. The pair made contact with Bassani able to continue the race, but given a Long Lap Penalty for the incident, while Rinaldi retired from the race.
