The Spanish rider crashed early on in the 15-minute session but was able to respond with the fastest time in the closing stages

The MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship Warm Up session was a dramatic affair as Sunday’s track action in the Motul Indonesian Round at the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit. Reigning Champion Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) was fastest by less than a tenth despite a crash early on in the session before setting the fastest time of the session on his first completed timed lap right at the end of the session.

Bautista had a disrupted session with his running limited during the Warm Up session after he had a crash at Turn 14 with around five minutes gone in the session. The reigning Champion was able to re-join the track and take his Panigale V4 R back to the pits. Bautista was able to take to the track with a couple of minutes remaining. Despite this, on his first timed lap, he moved to the top of the timesheets with a 1’32.368s.

Bautista finished ahead of Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) who took second spot after setting a 1’32.449s to finish just 0.081s down on Bautista. Andrea Locatelli (Pata Yamaha Prometeon WorldSBK) took third spot, 0.279s slower than Locatelli, as he goes in search for a third podium in three races.

Rea’s KRT teammate, Alex Lowes, was fourth after setting a 1’32.895s with the two Kawasaki riders riding together on track during the 15-minute session. 2021 Champion Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha Prometeon WorldSBK) took fifth spot ahead of Remy Gardner (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team). Gardner, who missed Saturday’s action through illness, will be reassessed after the Warm Up session.

Scott Redding (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) was the fastest BMW rider with seventh spot after he set a 1’33.441s, finishing ahead of his former teammate Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) who was eighth. Rinaldi’s session ended when he had a crash at Turn 6 right at the end of Warm Up, while Michael van der Mark (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) and Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team) rounded out the top ten.

Iker Lecuona (Team HRC) was 18th after his session was disrupted by a crash at Turn 11 when the rear of his bike came round on him, with the Spaniard completing only one timed lap.
